The Training and Development Agency for Schools (TDA) will soon cease its role in promoting the recruitment and training of teachers as this role will be taken up by the Department of Education.
In the meanwhile, there is a new number for the TDA's teaching information line (TIL) - 0800 389 2500, a highly useful resource for those considering a teaching career.
From September 2012 graduates who do not have at least a 2:2 will not receive funding for initial teacher education. The stress will be much more on on-the-job training routes such as the SCITT, GTP and Teach First programmes and a national network of Teaching Schools will lead the delivery of initial teacher training by these routes.
The Teach First programme is to be expanded to train over 1000 teachers over the next five years and will be new Teach First secondary places in Newcastle and Durham.
Studio Schools, a new type of state school for 14-19 year olds of all abilities are being introduced to to equip young people with the knowledge, skills and experience they need to succeed in life and work. For more details see www.studioschoolstrust.org
Contrary to a previous post on this blog, there is no longer a centralised system for applications for the Graduate Teacher programme on the TDA website. The system has been abandoned, so presumably applications will need to be sent direct to the appropriate provider - in our case the Lancashire and North West GTP Consortium

The Future of Careers Information
My discovery of Career Player (see today's ealier post) via Twitter has set me thinking a bit.
Although Career Player concentrates on a few main popular careers for graduates - Marketing, Banking, Advertising and Finance - could we be starting to see the introduction of whole careers libraries based on well-produced and informative videos?
There is already a similar product aimed at non-graduates called Careers Box. And, as a writer I'm noticing that Prospects are no longer commissioning many freelance careers updates and reducing the scope of the articles they offer, while jobs4U have currently suspended updates to the careers database for six months.
I wonder if everyone is taking breath before the next generation of careers information - databases of video information heavily sponsored by participating companies?
Is the old-style, publicly funded careers handout, even in its web format, about to die off completely?

jobs4u about to disappear
News has reached my ears that DCSF have decided to cease support for the jobs4u careers information site from 30th June this year.
Could this mean the end for www.connexions-direct.com/jobs4u? If so it will be a blow to young people, connexions advisers and people like myself who use it as a fallback when working with students who are looking at non-graduate occupations.
Can anyone confirm if this news is correct? Or is some other mechanism proposed for jobs4u in future?
